

Sherry Gayle Taylor-Brown, 73, of New York, NY, and formerly of Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, NY. She was born in Elizabethton, 2nd daughter of six children to the late George Taylor, Jr. and Ola Mae Jackson-Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Brown; two sisters, Gretchen Lorraine Taylor and Cheryl Laverne Taylor-Ray; aunts and uncles, Gorgon Martin Jackson and his wife Melveen Delores Greene-Jackson.
Sherry grew up Methodist in faith, but later (in life) made no claimed to any
particular religion; however, maintained a firm belief in God. She attended Douglas High School and participated in the marching band as a clarinetist, and a player on the female basket ball team before transfer to her alma mater of Elizabethton High School. There, she graduated a
member of the first African-American graduating class of Elizabethton High during Integration. Among her many enjoyments were researching genealogy, studying African-American History and cultural studies of the Elizabethton. After high school, she moved to New York City where she maintained a few different occupations before finally returning to the Tri-Cities area beginning a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant; Once more leaving the area, she retired a CNA in the City of New York.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Lee Brown, of New York, NY., and 3 brothers George Benny Taylor, of Elizabethton, TN, Robert Jeffery Taylor, of Portsmouth, VA, Timothy Gene Taylor, Greensboro, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Committal Service and Interment will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 at 1:00PM in the Garden of the Last Supper at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Jeanette Clark officiating. Everyone attending is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm.
