Stephen Arthur Reed, 64, passed away on May 6, 2026. Born April 30, 1962, Stephen was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities—born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee—and later a resident of Jonesborough, Tennessee. He will be remembered with deep respect for a life defined by steady work, openhanded generosity, and the quiet dignity of someone who showed love through what he did for others.
A true jack of all trades, Stephen built his working life with skill, persistence, and pride. Most recently, he worked as an electrician, serving both residences and businesses. He also worked previously as a plumber. In every role, his hard work spoke for him—reliable, capable, and willing to do what needed doing.
Stephen shared a committed and loving life with his fiancée and life partner of 28 years, Dawn Taylor. He found purpose in helping those closest to him, especially in fixing and maintaining family properties, and he was known for going out of his way to help anyone in any way he could. His generosity was practical and constant, offered without fanfare, and rooted in a sincere regard for people.
An outdoorsman at heart, Stephen enjoyed hiking, fishing, and especially hunting. At home, he took care in maintaining his house and flower beds, finding simple satisfaction in watching things grow. Whether outdoors or at home, he carried the same steady attentiveness—showing up, putting in the work, and making things better with his hands and his time.
Stephen is preceded in death by his father, Chester Arthur Reed. He is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Reed; his fiancée and life partner of 28 years, Dawn Taylor; his brother, Ben Reed; his former brother in law, Kevin Widner; his beloved nieces, Savannah, April, and Nicole; his beloved nephews, Hunter and Matt "Bud"; his best friends, Kenny Shin, Cheyenne Lowery, and Larry Ryans; and great nieces and great nephews, many friends, and loved ones.
Visitation will be held at Monte Vista Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 1900 E Oakland Ave, Johnson City, Tennessee 37601, on May 11, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at Monte Vista Funeral Home & Memorial Park on May 11, 2026, beginning at 6:00 pm.
The family would like to especially acknowledge the efforts of Marty; when needed, he administered life saving efforts, and the family will never forget that he was there when Stephen needed him the most.
