Voyd Hopson, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 7, 2019. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Lorine Hopson. Two daughters, Carol Profitt of Blowing Rock, NC,
Connie Reaves and husband Rick Reaves of Johnson City, TN. Three grandchildren, Josh Reaves and wife, Becca Reaves of Johnson City, TN, Kristy Reaves Noe and husband, T.J. Noe of Church Hill, TN, Tyler Hite of Boone, NC, and three great-grandchildren, Abby Reaves, Adam Reaves, and Emma Noe.
Voyd was born in Johnson City, TN on November 30, 1938 to the late Kenneth Hopson and the late Ellen Jones Hopson. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962 where he was stationed in Stockholm, Germany. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home to Tennessee where he met and married his wife, Lorine Russell Hopson. Voyd worked as caretaker/manager of Tipton-Haynes Farm from 1969-1992. He later retired from Decanter Machine Inc. in 2012.
He was a faithful member of Martindale Baptist Church.
His greatest passion was his music. This was something he enjoyed doing all his life. He could play a variety of instruments. For several decades he played music in Unicoi at the Red Barn every Thursday night and at the Bogart Cabin on Monday nights. For a short period of time he traveled with a Gospel Band playing at various churches. He was never without his banjo, guitar or his bass guitar. His music and laughter will forever be heard in the hearts of his loved ones and friends. As his journey in life was coming to an end, he said when he gets to heaven, he hoped he will get to be a musician. We rejoice in knowing that we will be together again one day in heaven when we are reunited in the presence of the Lord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (January 8, 2019) in the chapel at Monte Vista Funeral Home with Pastor Delbert Storie and Pastor Willie Lunsford officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
