Gary James Groves

Gary James Groves, 82, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born on March 1, 1944 in Columbus, OH, a son to the late James and Margaret (Peters) Groves. He was a Tool & Die designer and machinist for over 50 years. Starting with a family owned business, J.W. Groves & Sons and continued his career with Whiteside Manufacturing. He loved fishing, working on cars and playing cards. His grandson’s and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. He will surely be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, Gary was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Groves; brother, Terry Groves and nephews, Justin Groves and Daniel Clark. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Groves; sister, Anne Evans; son, Mark Groves, daughter, Deborah Smith (Chris Mollohan); grandchildren, Hunter Cecil, Mason (Katie) Cecil, Parker (Keiarya) Cecil; great-grandchildren, Liam Cecil, Aria Cecil, Denver Cecil, Avaleigh Cecil, Arlow Cecil and Amelia Cecil; brother-in-law, Thomas Gerber; along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at CROUSE-KAUBER-FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, OH 43031. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Calvin Alexander officiating. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery.
