
She was born July 7, 1929 in Athens, Ala. to the late Sadie (Eubanks) and Buster Adams.
She was raised in Pulaski and Nashville, Tenn., and the family moved to Mount Vernon when she was 16 years old.
Imogene and her late husband, Charles Payne Sr. were the developers and owners of Payne’s Mobile Homes in Mount Vernon for 20 years. After his death, Imogene continued a very successful sales career in Atlanta, Ga., not retiring until October 2013.
Imogene is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Ron) Milman of Alpharetta, Ga. and her son, Charles Jr. (Lisa) Payne of Mount Vernon; her grandson, Adam Payne of Arcata, Calif.; her granddaughter, Kelsi (Scott) Keener of Mount Vernon; along with two great-grandsons, Mason and Emmett Keener; her sister, Doris Thompson of Nashville, Tenn. and brother, Abe Adams of Mount Vernon; also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James Adams, Joe Sam Adams and Pokey Adams; sister, Betty Lemunyon (Shuff) and nieces, Susie Adams and Debbie Green.
The family will observe a memorial service at a later date.
