March 15, 1938June 20, 2018

JoAnne Ruth (Butler) Belt, a long-time resident of Johnstown, Ohio, went to be with the Lord; passing from this earth on June 20, 2018 at the Middleton Senior Living Facility in Granville, Ohio. Born on March 15, 1938 in Columbus, JoAnne lived most of her early life in Summit Station, Ohio, where she was a member of several student organizations, including band and choir. Following graduation, she attended cosmetology school before meeting and marrying Raymond L. Belt of Johnstown in 1956. A career in the U.S. Air Force took Ray and JoAnne all over the world, being stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Philippines, Kansas, Texas, and Colorado. After retiring from the Air Force, Ray and JoAnne returned to Johnstown, where they both worked at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. After retiring from Riverside, they pursued their love of travel, living in California, Colorado, and Arizona, before returning again to Johnstown. Following Ray’s passing in 2014, Jo remained in Johnstown until moving into the Middleton Senior Living Facility in 2016. In addition to her love of travel, Jo also lived a life of service to others – volunteering as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader; serving on the Board of Directors for various RV/camping clubs; and serving on the executive team for the Non-Commissioned Officers Association at the Air Force Academy. She also was an award-winning Avon sales representative; and was a waitress, cashier, and Customer Service representative at Riverside Hospital. Most of all, Jo was a devoted wife and mother to her three children, Dave (Suzy) Belt, Sandy Belt (Jim Corman), and Jim Belt. She is survived by all three children, as well as brother, Ralph (Diana) Butler; sister-in-law, Laura Butler; grandchildren, Kiva and Collin Belt, Mark Dingess and Tiffany Carnes (Justin), and Christina and Danielle Belt; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 58 years, Raymond Belt; brother, Ron Butler and daughter-in-law, Deborah (Pollart) Belt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio or the Capital City Hospice of Columbus, OH. The Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home in Johnstown has been entrusted with arrangements. Calling hours will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the funeral home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, OH 43031 with a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Dan McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

JoAnne was such a sweet, loving, and kind sister-in-law. I loved her smile and laugh. Ralph and I always felt so welcome and cared for when we were around her. We always enjoyed visiting her and Raymond in Johnstown and exchanging letters and emails. She will be deeply missed!!

JoAnne and Ray were such wonderful neighbors in Johnstown. Sad JoAnne is gone, but happy she's finally reunited with Ray. We often say how happy Ray and JoAnne would be with the women who bought their house. She's planting all kinds of trees and flowers and is always outside working in the yard. She's keeping it meticulous, just like Ray and JoAnne did. :)
