

He was born March 24, 1930 to Glenn William Byrd and Helen Prout Byrd.
John was a 1947 graduate of Alexandria High School where he played 6-man football alongside his lifelong friends.
John and his bride June built their life together in Alexandria where they raised their 3 daughters and loved each other for 74+ years.
His is a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War, spending a year in Greenland at Thule Air Base.
He retired as a Senior Electrician from Kaiser Aluminum after 35 years of employment. He then enjoyed 40 years of retirement, loving his family, fishing, playing golf and drinking a beer or two. John's annual 4th of July fish fry was legendary to his family and close friends.
Left to remember his love are his soulmate and wife, June Lesser Byrd, daughters: Lisa(Scott) Olmstead, Gloria(Don) Bowermaster and Leslie(Bobbie) Barrett, Grandchildren: Olmy (Laura) Olmstead, Melanie (Andrew) Pharis, Emily Olmstead, Jordan(Faith) Neibarger, Janie Neibarger and Justice Neibarger. Beloved great grandchildren include Abigail Olmstead, Danny and Wylie Pharis, Mason, Bentley, Sydney Bowen and Rory Neibarger. Also left to remember him nephews and a niece, and very close friends, Danny and Becki Disbennet and Larry and Leah Hickman.
John was predeceased by his parents and older siblings, son-in-law and many, many good friends.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
