April 22, 1927 – March 1, 2020
John Wilson “Pappy” Neibarger, 92, Sunbury resident for 46 years, was called safely home by Our Lord, to join his beloved wife Katherine on March 1st, 2020. John was born on April 22, 1927 in Jersey Township in Licking County, Ohio to Carl and Florence (Hills) Neibarger. He was the eldest of seven children, having had three brothers and three sisters. John was a loyal employee of Columbus Clay Manufacturing Company for 19 years, Worthington Industries for 22 years, and N&G Construction for 14 years. John finally retired at the modest age of 75. After which he would often be found working away in his gardens, mowing his lawn, splitting wood or otherwise occupying his time as not to be idle. His work ethic was unprecedented and only complimented his adoration and respect for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a steadfast Christian, John's faith was evident in his life's work. He was a founding member of Wayside Chapel in Johnstown, Oh. where he attended until his passing. John was proceeded in death by his wife of 51 years, Katherine Lou (Mann) Neibarger; his son William 'Bill' Neibarger, his mother and father, his brothers George (Alice), Richard, and Carl Neibarger II; his sisters Dorothy Christian (Kenneth), Thelma Jean Miller (Bill), and Elaine Baughman (Leland). John, a loving and devoted husband, father, and 'Pappy' is survived by his sons John (Shirley) Neibarger of Johnstown, Roger (Diane) Neibarger, David (Ann) Neibarger and Timothy Neibarger all of Sunbury; 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews as well as an abundance of extended family and friends. He was affable and tenderhearted with a wry sense of humor. He would often be heard gloating over his 9ft high 14ft wide wall of family photos, he could tell you every grandchild's birthday from memory, and never missed an opportunity to slip in a slightly macabre comment into any conversation.
Surely, if a man’s wealth is measured by the love he both gives and receives then John was truly an affluent man having left behind a legacy of Faith, Family, and Friendship.
