Mary Jo (Latz) Dodderer left this earthly realm peacefully at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday October 5, 2021, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 67 years old. It would be wrong to say that Mary Jo lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Mary Jo stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Mary Jo. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight. She was born to the late Joseph and Mary Latz, March 11, 1954, In Wheeling, West Virginia. Mary Jo graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School in 1972 and received an associates degree in Nursing at West Virginia Community College. She was a proud mother to Andy (Courtney) and Jimmy (Megan) Dodderer of Johnstown Ohio. A proud Grandma and Nana Bear to four grandchildren Lane, Aulden, Maxil and Whitley Dodderer and step grandchildren Montgomery and Sterling Adkins. A loving friend, sister, cousin, aunt she has touched the lives of many. Preceded in death by parents Mary and Joseph Latz, infant sister Theresa Marie, and brother Allan Latz. Mary Jo retired from Riverside Hospital in 2018 where she served as an oncology nurse on 7 yellow. She was admired by coworkers and patients alike. Her natural gift was always serving people which was exemplified through mentoring and being a preceptor to many nurses, sharing the wisdom and experience that she gained over the years. Outside of loving her career and children, she was a die hard Steelers fan. You could be sure to see her rooting her team in full Black and yellow with a terrible towel in Hand. Go Steelers. Viewing Ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 1 p.m. with the service beginning at 2 p.m. at Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home of Johnstown. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Easterseals Central and Southeast Ohio. A separate celebration of life will be planned for a later date hosted in West Virginia.

MJ and I could have gotten in a lot of trouble back in the day!! We worked side by side taking care of cancer patients for many years!! She was an awesome nurse and friend and always made me laugh with the stories she used to tell about her boys' antics at home when they were young!!!
We did our fair share of partying with our own antics and those of the nurses we worked with on 7 North (or 7 yellow to most) at RMH!!!
I will miss her smile and humor and pray for her boys-Andy & Jimmy and their respective families!! She raised smart, well mannered young men who have found their paths in life and have wonderful families of their own!!
Rest peacefully MJ!!! You deserve it!!

It is always difficult to lose a nurse sister. I worked with MJ for over 35 years. We used to smoke together in the dirty utility room. She was a wonderful person and great nurse. She comforted many people and mentored many nurses. I will miss you old friend. My prayers and thoughts are with her sons who were so dear to her as she spoke often through the years and all family and friends. Soar high Mary Jo.

I met Mary Jo in high school in Wheeling, WVa. We became part of a group known as the Amazons (Zons). Throughout our four years together, the Amazons stuck together through thick and thin, going to games, dances, parties, sleepovers, school events, always together. Mary Jo was beautiful, fun, smart, and kind. She loved to laugh. I know she was a great nurse and mother because she was compassionate and loving. We are sad to lose our dear friend, but feel so lucky to have loved her and be loved by her. We will always keep a chair for you when we get together. Fly free Mary Jo. You will forever be our Amazon sister and forever close to our hearts. We love you so much!❤️

I have so many wonderful memories growing up with Mary Jo. All the cousins and aunts and uncles would get together almost every Sunday at Grandma and Grandpap Latz’s house. We spent birthdays and holidays together celebrating. MJ was always smiling and laughing at these get togethers. We all truly had wonderful childhoods spending so much time together. MJ will be continually missed but will always be in our hearts. Rest In Peace dear lovely Mary Jo! 🙏🏻💕🌹
