Merle E. Toomey joined his wife Bernice, and their Lord, in Heaven, on May 26th, 2022. He passed peacefully at the home they built in their forty-seven years together. Born September, 19th 1938 in Marion, OH, he was raised by his loving parents Robert and Isabelle, along with his sister Judy. He is a graduate of Cardington-Lincoln Highschool. He went on to serve three years in the U.S. Navy as Petty Officer 3rd Class Aviation Technician before enjoying a career at the Newark Air Force base as an Avionics Electronics Technician. His loved ones honor his service to his Country.
A deacon of his church, he spent many of his years supporting his family in Christ. His friends may remember him as a man of prayer, lover of old Western movies, Jack-Of-All-Trades willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, and joyous laughter.
He joins his two daughters Sue and Chris (deceased, 1977) with their Savior. His memory carries on within his five remaining Children: Pam, Keith, Denise, Karen, Stanton, and his Grandchildren: Tonica, Taylor, Skylar, TJ, Andi, Zeke, Zane, Zander, Chris (grandson by proxy), and Great-Grandchildren: Anabelle, Willow, Giavona. His is survived by Tom Perkins, who deserves a special nod of appreciation for standing by Merle through 50+ years of friendship.
A gathering will be held in his memory at Grace Baptist Church at 470 Manning St, Newark, OH on Saturday, June 4th from 12-1pm, with a Memorial Service immediately following. Friends and family may stay to fellowship after the service.
