Patricia Ann Cline, 88, of Alexandria, Ohio, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Pat was born November 11, 1935 in Marion, Ohio to the late Helen and Kenneth Howell. She had 7 siblings, including those who preceded her in death, Mary Eblin, Susie Rowley, Jim Howell, and Joe Howell. Surviving siblings include Tom (Sue) Searles, Betty (Joe) Harmon, and Nancy (Lewis) Baker.
Pat met her husband Bob Cline in 1954, marrying June 18, 1955. They lived in a small house trailer, working hard and saving money (which she kept in a Mr. Peanut can in her closet) to build their home on Northridge Road. Bob loved Pat fiercely, buying her thoughtful gifts and giving her hugs and kisses in front of the grandkids which she always pretended not to like. Bob worked hard to provide for the family and Pat devoted herself to keeping house and raising their children. Pat was very independent, always mowing the grass, gardening, and climbing up on the roof to sweep off all the leaves so their home looked nice. Bob passed away suddenly in 2002 and a piece of Pat’s heart went with him.
With the grandkids, Pat was a fan of clothesline volleyball, telling ghost stories, eating Eggo Waffles and Coke Floats, and gambling with cards. She played Frank Sinatra and Merle Haggard, and taught the great-grandkids how to Jitterbug.
Pat kept almost every note given to her by her kids, her grandkids, and great-grandkids. She kept a book of four-leaf clovers found by her husband in a book she labeled Pop’s Book. Pat was known to write poems and scripture and hide her notes in Bibles. Her grandkids will tell you that even though she didn’t grow up surrounded by love, she taught herself love the minute her grandkids were born.
In 2019, after a series of illnesses, Pat bravely sold her home and moved into Middleton Senior Living in Granville. She taught her family how to embrace change, make friends late in life, and find ways to embrace life when it doesn’t turn out like you planned. At Middleton she loved playing Bingo, “complaining” about the food to anyone who would listen, and flirting with the Granville police when they’d come to visit. The Staff there loved her sassy personality. Special thanks to all the staff there who treated her like their own family.
Pat is survived by her children, Mae (Fred) Pound and Joe (Shauna) Cline; grandchildren, Lindsey (Bill) Hoskinson and their daughters Madeline and Avery, Zachary (Jennifer) Cline and their sons Logan and Silas, and Abby (Mike) Shipley and their daughter Morgan.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life from 9-10a.m., Wednesday, April 3, at Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home, 225 North Main Street, Johnstown, Ohio 43031. Funeral to be held Wednesday, April 3 at 10a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Kevin Hull officiating. Burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Alexandria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Church of Christ at Alexandria, https://www.ccaa.church/ 5830 Moots Run Road, Alexandria, Ohio 43001.
