Patricia Kay Hammel

Patricia Kay Hammel (nee McCoy), born 2/8/1943 in Columbus, Ohio. Died 9/6/2026 at the age of 83 in Utica, Ohio. Attended Cosmetology School in Columbus, Ohio and was a co-owner of “Still Life Taxidermy” in Johnstown, Ohio.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Juanita McCoy (nee Smith) and her sister, Tinnie Jo McCoy.

Pat is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward B Hammel; son, Johnny Hammel (Dee) and daughter Stephanie Hammel; 6 Grandkids including: Amy Smith (Cory), Mark Hammel (Emily); Eddie Taylor; Sherry Taylor and Sarah Taylor; 9 Great Grandkids including: Ellianna Smith, Declan Smith, Brick Taylor, Lennox Taylor, Icarus Taylor, Layla Hammel, Landon Hammel, Hallie Hammel, and Hazel Hammel.

Pat was an artist who made beautiful “Still Life” mounts. She loved animals, the outdoors and coffee! She was an accomplished fisher-woman, primarily fishing for Muskie on the Michigan/Wisconsin borders. She holds the family record for the largest Muskie caught! She “rescued” many animals throughout her life and the stories we could tell about her adventures are priceless. She also raised several breeds of dogs throughout her life, but her primary love was for shepherds, especially white shepherds. She won many awards fowmanship and training. She also enjoyed gardening, and growing flowers and some of her favorites were Geraniums, Ferns, and Marigolds. And, she made the best potato salad ever!

There will be a private “Celebration of Life” later this year where we will spread her ashes at her home and in the Spring of 2027, we will spread the rest of her ashes on her beloved island in the North Woods.
