Roy G. Hilderman, of Johnstown was born in Woodward, Oklahoma September 3, 1929. He was the second son of George and Jennie (Davis) Hilderman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert (JoAnn) and Gene (Linda). Roy married his college sweetheart, Ramona (Mona) Dowell on December 24, 1949. Roy’s greatest joys in life were his two very talented children, Rebecca (David) Keck and Randall (Martha) Hilderman, three granddaughters, Melissa (Nathan) Allen, Krista (Douglas) Stauffer, and Marika Hilderman, and five great-grandchildren, Micah, Benjamin, Daniel, Gabriel and Joseph. He began his short teaching career after graduating from then Emporia State Teacher’s College with a degree in music education. In college he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha honorary music fraternity and Alpha Tau social fraternity. Roy taught in the Eskridge, Kansas and Emporia school systems. After working in a music store, he made a complete career change and joined Frontier Airlines. He and his family moved to Durango, Colorado, and after four years in Durango, he was selected to be Division Training Supervisor in Aurora, Colorado. In Aurora his career soared as he became Director of Personnel Administration, a position he held until his retirement in1985. A few years later he and Mona moved to Lake Havasu City. Arizona. Roy was a member of the Presbyterian Church and active in the Presbyterian Church all his life. He served as choir director for several churches, on the board of trustees, as an elder, and various committees and church organizations. He was also very active, holding several offices in Kiwanis International in Lake Havasu City. After 16 years in Arizona, Roy and Mona moved to Johnstown, Ohio in 2006. It was here that he passed to heaven with great care given by dedicated hospice nurse Mel Harris and her staff. His family will miss him greatly, but take pride that he was a great example as a husband, father, granddad and great-grandfather. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio, 43031. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM at the Johnstown Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 11. Arrangements handled by CROUSE-KAUBER-FRALEY FUNERAL HOME.
