

Carlton Burley, Sr., was born on July 3, 1931 to the late Cliff Burley and Saloma Pound Burley in Atlanta, Georgia. Carlton departed this life on August 23, 2012 in Decatur, Georgia. He was the fifth child of five children who all preceded him in death, Susie Gray, Lessie Redding, Alfonzo Burley, and Clifford Burley. Carlton was a native Atlantan and was a residence of Stone Mountain, Georgia. He attended Carver Vocational High School. Upon graduating from High School, Carlton was enlisted in the United States Army. From 1952 – 1953, he served in the Korean War where he received the following medals and citation: Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star; United Nations Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. On April 30, 1959, he married the love of his life Annie Johnson Burley. He is survived by his wife and five children Mr. & Mrs. Robert King (Yolanda), Mr. & Mrs. (Carlton) Burley, Jr., Mr. & Mrs. William Boles (Lynette), Bishop & Mrs. D. L. Rogers (Melanie), and Captain & Mrs. Winfred Andrews (Syretha), fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, seven sister-in-laws, four brother in-laws and a host of nieces, and nephews. Many will miss his singing and dancing. He enjoyed current events, dancing, singing, skating, swimming, working on cars, and had a heart for the homeless. Services will be held at Tara Garden Chapel 681 North Ave, Jonesboro, GA 30236 on Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 at 11AM. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery located in Canton, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 between the hours of 6PM-8PM.
