

Carol was born in Jonesboro, Georgia to parents Louise (Dussie) Morgan and James Wilson (Shorty) Barnette on June 10, 1939. She lived on the family farm through high school. Carol graduated from Jonesboro High School playing on the basketball team and serving as a cheerleader. Carol enjoyed a successful 32 year career with Southern Bell, later to become AT&T, starting as a switchboard operator in 1958 and working her way up to Manager of the Network Sector Staff in Atlanta, retiring in 1991.
Carol enjoyed the outdoors playing golf and recreationally boating on Lake Lanier. She enjoyed sports. She was a volunteer in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and University of Georgia football fan, and loved spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Duke (Lance), her son Scott Ellenburg, her granddaughter Amanda Ellenburg, numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces, great grandnephews, and preceded in death by her granddaughter Chandler Ellenburg, brother James Wilson Barnette, Jr., sister Dorothy Inez Barnette Morgan (Jimmy), brother Charles Wynn Barnett (Jo), brother Gene Barnette (surviving spouse Barbara), brother Robert Barnette (Georgia), and parents Louise (Dussie) and James (Shorty) Barnette.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Tara Garden Chapel, 681 North Avenue, Jonesboro, GA 30236. A Celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Jonesboro United Methodist Church, 142 South Main Street, Jonesboro, GA. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, 6841 Tara Blvd, Jonesboro, GA.
