Co-Pastor Carolyn Smith Compton was born the third of six children in Dublin, Georgia on July 15, 1960 to Delmas Smith Jr.(deceased) and Rosetta (Smith) Mitchell. She departed this life on Saturday, March 10, 2018. She was a caring and loving mother, a devoted wife, and was a woman filled with much love and joy whenever she was in the presence of her family and friends. She married Garry Lane Compton and together they have one daughter, Camelle Laree (Compton) Simmons.
Co-Pastor Compton leaves to cherish her memory and legacy: her husband, Garry Lane Compton, daughter, Camelle Laree Simmons (Maurice), her parents Rosetta and Willie Mitchell, four sisters, Deborah (Charles) Moss, Linda (Jessie) Brown, Cathy (Desi) Robinson, Marcy Renee (John) Walker, and one brother, Gregory Smith Sr. Her in-laws, Dora F. Compton and John R. Compton (deceased), five brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Co-Pastor Compton served as an Executive Administrative Assistant for 21 years in the United States Army and retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7)in April 2002 at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Georgia.
Co–Pastor Compton has been awarded several educational degrees and approved program of studies during her professional career. She received an Associate in Technology degree on June 21, 1989 from Pierce College, Tacoma, Washington. She completed required program curriculum at Savannah Technical College in Savannah, Georgia and received the Associate Degree in Administrative Office Technology on December 17, 2004.
Co-Pastor Compton wore many hats in the ministry. She was licensed to preach under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Moss, Christian Outreach Fellowship International Ministries, Inc., in 1998. Co-Pastor Compton held various positions within the church, such as the Assistant Secretary of the East Coast Holy Convocation, Secretary, Women of Sion, team leader, Sunday school and Bible study teacher and Program coordinator for pastor and church anniversary, fundraising committee, alter worker, choir member, praise team, and community volunteer. She stood ready and willing to use her anointed hands for the work of the ministry.
She was appointed Co-Pastor of Universal Pentecostal Church on October 18, 2014 by Bishop T. L. Ricks, Senior Overseer, where she faithfully and religiously served until her passing. She preached the word every 1st Sunday, taught Sunday School every 2nd Sunday, played drums and assisted the church treasured with financial matters.
Viewing for Co-Pastor Compton will be held at Dudley Funeral Home, 617 E Jackson Street, Dublin, GA 31021, 478-272-5511, Friday March 16th from 2PM until 6PM and Saturday March 17th from 12PM until 4PM. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, March 19th at 10 am in the chapel of Tara Garden Chapel Funeral Home, 681 North Ave, Jonesboro, 770-471-7171, Interment to follow immediately after the service with full military honors at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
