George Arlen Bennett, age 84, of McDonough, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020.

George was born in Tampa, FL on June 20, 1935 and married Charlotte Merita Washington Bennett on October 23, 1960. George raised his family in a home that he bought in Riverdale, GA in 1962 where he remained for years. George served in the U.S. Army for 4-years and afterwards obtained Technical Training as a Machinist and he was a member of the International Association of Machinists.

George is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; son, Victor Arlen Bennett; parents, Norman Bennett and Elizabeth (Fultz) Bennett and brother, Robert T. Bennett.

George is survived by his daughter, Frances Merita Bennett Roe; grandchildren, Jaclyne Roe, Ryan Roe, Shana Bennett, Anthony Bennett, Matthew Bennett and Brandon Bennett as well as a host of other family members and friends.

George’s family will receive friends for Visitation at Tara Garden Chapel on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 PM with Rev. L.R. Dunigan, Rev. Stephen Worley, and Anthony Bennett officiating.

George will be laid to rest with Military Honors following the Funeral Service at Sherwood Memorial Park – 6841 Tara Blvd. – Jonesboro, GA 30236. (770) 478-5001.

When I first met George he greeted me so warmly that I felt an instant kinship with him. He proudly showed us his beautiful handmade creations in his workshop. I admired his creativity and ingenuity but mainly I admired his love for his family and his ever widening circle of friends. George you will be missed very much.
