Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mike also lived in Atlantic City and New Jersey. He was also in the Navy in San Diego.
He was a Senior Draftsman by trade, and married Jane Awtrey Smedley (deceased 2022) in 1963. He had two children, Michael Stephen Smedley (deceased 1984) and Kimberly Kennedy. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Kennedy; son-in-law Danny Kennedy; granddaughter, Emily Jane Kennedy; grandson Jake Kennedy; and sister, Louise Elmore.
A private service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
