Nehemiah “Chuks” Adimora graced this world with his presence on April 28th, 1938. He was born in Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria, to Daniel Adimora and Rosalind Udegbunam. After the tragic loss of his father at a young age, Chuks and his mother developed an unbreakable bond that set a firm foundation for all his future success.
Nehemiah grew up to be a strong, intelligent, hardworking man of integrity. He attended Government College Ughelli and attained multiple distinguished academic honors including a highly sought out scholarship to study in the United States. He received his MBA from the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At the onset of the Biafran War, Nehemiah was forced to return home to Nigeria. It was during this period that Nehemiah met the love of his life, his “baby Gburum” Patricia Adimora née Chidi.
After the war, in 1973, Nehemiah and Patricia were wed. They both returned to the United States where Nehemiah began his PhD studies at Columbia University. Due to the unexpected illness of his mother, Nehemiah’s PhD studies were cut short. He resourcefully secured a regional post in Nigeria with Citibank of NY, allowing him and his wife to return home to take care of his mother. This move simultaneously kickstarted his career as an investment banker.
Over the years, Nehemiah continued to excel in his banking career. He held multiple high-level positions across different world-renowned banking institutions. In 1991, Nehemiah accepted an integral executive level position as Senior Vice President of the newly formed New York branch of the United Bank of Africa (UBA). In this role, Nehemiah was instrumental in building the branch from the ground up. With Nehemiah now based in NY, he emigrated his entire family to the United States where they settled in Scarsdale, NY. The U.S. became the family’s new home and it is here they all excelled and thrived.
Nehemiah was a faith-filled man who loved his family fiercely. He raised 5 children with his wife of 48 years. Having lost his father at a young age, Nehemiah understood the importance of being a present, loving and supportive father and husband. Nehemiah always made his children and wife his first priority, and for that his family will be forever grateful. The game of tennis was Nehemiah’s second love. He respected the rigor, competitiveness and athleticism of the sport. Having played and won multiple local and regional tournaments, he had the skills necessary to pass on the love of the game to his children.
In the early morning hours of All Souls Day, November 2nd, 2021, after a well lived life filled with love, family and friends, Nehemiah went to his eternal rest. Oke osisi adago (The mighty Iroko has fallen).
Nehemiah is survived by his wife Patricia and his five children: Adaora (Accounting Controller, MAcc), Ekene (Accountant/Auditor), Chinenye (OBGYN, MD, FACOG), Chiazamoku (Actor) and his baby Nnenna (Biomedical Engineer, Sr. Medical Director, PhD) grandchildren: Uche, Lucas, Kanayo, Sienna, Dibike, Ava and his namesake, Chuks; extended family: Frank, Echezona, Chinwe, Ebele, Blessing, Uju and Afoma; in-laws: Trevor, Chijioke, Ukoha-Eke and Lucas. He was preceded in death by his father Daniel, his mother Rosalind and his relative Chukwuma.
He will be greatly missed but we take courage that he lived a full life, filled with love.
