Agnes Louise Spenger Stroz, 87, of Juno Beach, FL and Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018 at Hospice of Palm Beach County after a long battle with C.O.P.D. Agnes was born on July 27, 1930 in Johnstown, PA.
She was married to the love of her life, Frank J. Stroz, for 58 years, who predeceased her. Agnes was a longtime resident of Wilmington Manor in New Castle, DE, where she raised her family and completed her BSN degree from Wilmington College. She resumed her nursing career in the New Castle school district, with the Head Start program and, later, as the school nurse at Castle Hills Elementary School. Agnes and Frank retired, traveled the U.S., and enjoyed their second home in Rehoboth Beach with their family. They were faithful parishioners at Our Lady of Fatima Church, which was across the street from their longtime home. Agnes was known for her love of baking, sharing many peach pies made from the trees in her yard.
Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Michael Stroz and his wife, Stephany Siwinski, of Highland Park, IL; Cynthia Gardner and her partner, John Garrett, of Jupiter, FL; Dr. Margaret Stroz and her husband, Dr. Paul Eberts, of West Chester, PA; and Thomas Stroz and his wife, Stephanie Stroz, of Castle Rock, CO. Agnes (“Mema”) will also be forever remembered by grandchildren: Victoria and Kimberly Stroz; Kelly and Caroline Gardner; Drew, Hannah, Teddy, and Maggie Eberts; and Abby, Brad, Ryan, and Daniel Stroz. She was one of five sisters and is also survived by two of her sisters: Sr. Terrence Spenger OSF of Mt. Alvernia, PA and Charlene Sheffler of North Springfield, VA. Agnes was preceded in death by her sisters, Donna Stecker of Fairfax, VA and Mary Spenger of Johnstown, PA, and her granddaughter, Kathryn Gardner.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at 12:30 p.m., at St. Paul of the Cross Church, 10970 Jack Nicklaus Dr., North Palm Beach, FL 33408. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 16, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Agnes on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 801 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720. A visitation will take place before the Mass on Saturday, March 17, 2018, between 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the church vestibule preceding Mass. Internment following the services will be held at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808.
