Alice was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on December 26, 1951, to Edward Jefferson Smith and Suzanne Puyoulet Smith. She grew up with her sisters, Julie and Fay, in Sylacauga, and graduated from Sylacauga High School. She then attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. While at the University, she met Gene Tylander, and on July 21, 1973, they were married in Sylacauga. They began their married life in West Palm Beach, Florida, Gene’s hometown. She immediately went to work first at E. F. Hutton Brokerage Firm, and next was lured away to Bagatelle, a quaint little shop on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach where she was able to utilize her true passion, interior design. In 1978 when Patrick was born, she changed professions to the greatest of her life—Mother. Then came Andrew and Suzanne and many years of caring, driving, swim meets, basketball games and everything else a wonderful mother would do out of love and devotion to her children. Many years later, when she did return to work, she found herself with an opportunity in the professional golf industry. This second career started with PGA of America, The Gary Player Group and then International Golf Partners-Event Links. After her many years in the pro-golf industry, she was given the opportunity she had been waiting for to return to the field of interior design and building. She was offered the position of Builder Concierge at the new Ritz Carlton Golf and Estate Development in Jupiter (now owned by Trump). It was truly her dream job.
When the Ritz Development was completed, she went to work with her husband in the electronic events-coordinating industry, and created their company, TyTix. She traveled with Gene to many fairs and festivals around the country, and coordinated other clients’ events via internet.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her gentle nature, and her constant effort to help and comfort all around her. The goodness and unselfishness of her heart was exceptional.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Edward Jefferson Smith and Suzanne Puyoulet Smith. She is survived by her husband of 45 ½ years, Gene Tylander, sons Patrick Tylander (Lori), Andrew Tylander (Allison), daughter Suzanne, grandsons Parker R. Tylander and Lawson J. Tylander, sisters Julie E. Smith and Fay Smith Poole (Cleve), nephew Edward E. Poole, nieces Evelyn F. Poole and Kelly Wolfe Shipp (Kevin), and sister-in-law Kathy Tylander Wolfe (Tom Smith).
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee Groves, any Doberman rescue, Mitchell County Animal Rescue in Spruce Pine, NC or to your local animal rescue/shelter.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 8, from 2-4 at Aycock Funeral Home in Jupiter, FL.
