Allan T. Abess Jr. born May 4, 1928 in Long Island New York. Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 18, 2011 after a brief illness. Allan's parents Allan T. Abess and M. Irene (Tootie) Abess moved with their infant son to Miami in 1929. Allan graduated from the Georgia Military College in 1946 then graduated from Emory University. Allan served in the Korean War as a Master Sergent. When he returned home in 1950 he started as a teller at City National Bank in Coral Gables. One of Allan's greatest honors was to train his cousin and best friend Leonard Abess Jr. “He guided me through every decision including what to order for lunch” his cousin Leonard said. “He was loved by employees and customers alike. He managed by walking around. I never worried what went on in back of the store. Allan protected me ever since I was a kid.”

Allan met the love of his life Joan Edwards at a friends home in 1963 and they married in 1965. They shared a love for sailing and were members of Coral Reef Yacht Club where Allan served as Commodore 1986 to 1987. Allan was a trustee of the Alma Jennings Foundation and a board member of South Miami Hospital where he served as Treasurer.
