Carol Ann Dorgan left this earth peacefully on July 12th, 2026, just shy of her 83rd birthday at Trustbridge Hospice Care at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida after valiantly fighting through many health issues in recent years.
Carol was born on July 29th, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Edward J. Dorgan and Ruth Reno Dorgan. As the youngest of three girls, she grew up sharing a special bond with her older sisters, Joan and Janey. Carol would talk fondly about growing up in 1940s-50s Pittsburgh, noting that her favorite childhood memories were created on summer family trips to Geneva-on-the-Lake in Ohio. Carol attended St. Benedict Academy, an all-girls school in Pittsburgh where she was President of her class and Co-Editor of the yearbook. Upon graduation she attended Marquette University in Wisconsin.
Following her college years Carol spent the next several decades as a homemaker and wonderful mother to John (born in RI), Molly (born in NJ) and Michael (born in MI). To Carol, her children were her greatest joy and everything to her and she continually told family and friends how proud she was of each of them. As her children grew, a new chapter began and Carol returned to school and began her graduate studies and received a master’s degree in psychology from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and then went on to obtain her PhD in psychology from the University of Cincinnati. The topic of her PhD thesis was the influence of sibling birth order and how this transformed everyone’s psychological behaviour. Carol established her own family psychology practice and helped countless families and individuals over the years. She enjoyed this work immensely and maintained her family therapy practice for almost 30 years, from 1990 to 2019.
During these years the other greatest joys of her life were born, her grandchildren. Affectionately known as Nani to her grandchildren, Carol welcomed grandchildren Alexandra and Peyton Del Re and Ruby and Bolen Linstroth. To Carol there was nothing better than to spoil and hold these children.
Beyond her devotion to family, Carol was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage and an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers waving her terrible towel throughout the season. Carol maintained very close friendships throughout her life and relished her many and frequent lunch partners. Carol was also an avid reader consuming on average a book a day on her Kindle. In her later years, Carol volunteered at El Sol kitchen, and the Food Bank at St. Peter’s Church in Jupiter, Florida. One of Carol’s love languages was cooking, and she was a fantastic cook known for making gourmet meals throughout her children’s childhood, continuing that love baking special treats with her grandchildren, and was still bringing her Nani's Special Potatoes, popovers and rum cake to holiday dinners these last few years. She loved attending her grandchildren’s events and was in attendance for sports, races, plays and graduations whenever possible. In everything she did, and above all, Carol was kind to everyone she met. She had a true heart of gold. She touched so many lives in such positive ways and will be remembered by so many for her empathy.
Carol will be dearly missed by her entire family and her sweet cat, Annie. May you rest in peace and may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Carol is preceded in death by her father Edward J. Dorgan, her mother, Ruth Reno Dorgan and her grandson Robin Michael Linstroth.
She is survived by her three children, Dr. John Linstroth II, Molly Linstroth Del Re, and Michael Linstroth; her sisters: Joan Dorgan and Janey Dorgan Nelson; her son-in-law, Joseph Del Re; her daughter-in-law, Robyn Poarch Linstroth; her grandchildren: Alexandra Del Re, Peyton Del Re, Ruby Linstroth and Bolen Linstroth, and all of her many nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458, US, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with a memorial service to occur at 4:00PM to 5:00 PM on July 31, 2026.
