It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Ellen Carter (CC), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us on August 24, 2024, at the age of 72. Catherine was born on June 11, 1952, in Miami, Florida, and her vibrant spirit touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable life.
A dedicated and compassionate nurse, Catherine graduated from Roanoke Memorial School of Nursing and spent over 20 years working as an ER nurse at JFK Medical Center. Her exceptional care and commitment were recognized with the prestigious Nurse of the Unit award in 2018, a testament to her unwavering dedication to her patients and colleagues.
Catherine's personal life was just as full and rich as her professional one. She was married to her loving husband, Larry Rissmiller, for 25 wonderful years. Together, they shared a life filled with joy, laughter, and countless adventures. Catherine also cherished the time spent with her children and stepchildren: Richard (and wife Jamila), Kevin (and wife Corinne), Angela (and husband Chad), and Elizabeth (and husband Daniel). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Stephen, Collin, Katelyn, Casey, Amanda, Phillip, Trevor, Justin, Paige, Deschain, and Brileigh.
Catherine had a deep love for the ocean, and her hobbies reflected her zest for life. She enjoyed boating, biking, traveling, dancing, horseback riding, and glamping in Gypsy (motor home). She was a passionate music lover and active participant in Orange Theory’s fitness classes. Her joy extended to spending time with her friends, who she considered family, and celebrating life with her beloved companions.
She is survived by her husband Larry, her sister Patricia, her children and stepchildren, and her cherished grandchildren. Catherine was predeceased by her late husband Curtis Carter and her sisters Janet and Barbara.
A memorial service will be held at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, Florida 33458, on Friday, August 30th, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with the service beginning at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Furry Friends or the American Cancer Society, honoring Catherine's compassionate spirit and her commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Catherine will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, and vibrant spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
