Charles H. Hartl, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, in Jupiter, Florida, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 1, 1947, in East Orange, NJ, Charlie was the son of Charles H. Hartl, Sr. and Ruth (Schumann) Hartl. He graduated from Asbury Park High School and later became the USPS Postmaster in Avon-by-the-Sea for over 30 years.

He loved the ocean and became a lifeguard in Avon-by-the-Sea. Charlie joined the United States Lifesaving Association and became a member of its Board of Directors. He was passionate about lifesaving. He will be remembered as a generous, kind and gentle man. He had friends wherever he would go. You could always find him at the North Palm Beach golf club three days a week playing golf with the Sharks.

He was a member of the Avon-by-the-Sea First Aid and was a past chief of the Avon-by-the-Sea Fire Department. Charlie was a charter member of the Area Network of Shore Water Emergency Responders (A.N.S. W.E.R) team.He was a previous part owner of a family owned business, The American Aluminum Casting Company in Irvington, N.J. and owned a payroll company in Neptune City. He was a Councilman in Neptune City for ten years. In 1970 he served in the Army National Guard.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Connie (Furlong) Hartl, and his son, Derek Hartl, and wife, Manuela Policicchio, grandchildren, Massimo and Sarai Hartl, and sister, Jeanne Libby. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Hartl and parents Charles and Ruth Hartl.

A Memorial Service will be held in NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United States Lifesaving Association.
