Dominick T. Golia, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida (formerly of Nutley, NJ) passed away peacefully on March 13, 2018 in the presence of his loving family. He was born in the Bronx, NY and graduated Cardinal Hayes High School in 1953. He enlisted in the Coast Guard and proudly served his country from 1953-55. From 1958 to 1968, while helping to raise his four children and building a career in business forms sales, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from Rutgers University. He retired after a very successful career as VP of Sales for Drew & Rogers of W. Caldwell, NJ in 1995 and relocated to Juno Beach, Florida. He later married the love of his life, Michelle Hodgkin, in 2013 and enjoyed some of the happiest years of his life traveling and spending quality time with his wife, family and many close friends.
Dom was a loving husband, father and family patriarch, who will be remembered by his many friends and family as a kind and generous man who never hesitated in assisting others, whether it be financially, with valued advice or simply through words of encouragement. Dom loved socializing, dining out, cruising the high seas and most of all sharing a good laugh or a fun memory. He enjoyed entertaining family, friends and clients alike and was always the first to reach for the check.
Dom enjoyed playing basketball in his youth, starring on his high school team and played the game into his 30’s in adult leagues. He later coached CYO teams and organized and ran high school basketball leagues. He became an ardent golfer the last 45 years of his life and was a valued member of Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ for over 20 years, serving as Club President four of those years. In Florida, he was a long-time member of Ballenisles CC, where he made countless life-long friendships. He also enjoyed playing at Jupiter CC and Jonathan’s Landing later in his life. He was a generous supporter of several religious and civic organizations in New Jersey and Florida. He and his family were long-time parishioners of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nutley, NJ, and he contributed for many years to the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus and the Nutley Elks. In Florida, he supported St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palm Beach Gardens after retiring to Juno Beach.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Edward Howard Golia, his mother Sofia Wieczorek, and his brother Edward Golia.
Dom is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Hodgkin, his stepson George Hodgkin, his daughter Debra and her husband Nick, his son Stephen and his wife Mary, his daughter Lori and her husband Sterling, his 12 grandchildren, Kristin, Brian, Julianne, Laura, Lauren, Holly, Nicholas, Christopher, Brendan, Lea, Devin and Mackenzie, his two great grandchildren, Sienna and Olivia, and his brother George Kruczkowski.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 17 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Rd., Palm Beach Gardens. A repass reception in celebration of Dom’s life will follow at the St Patrick church hall. Burial with a military ceremony will take place on Monday, March 19 at 9:15 AM at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 SR 7, Lake Worth, Florida.
