

Donald Alexander Douds, Jr., born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, passed away in Jupiter Fl at the age of 80 years old. Don graduated from Indiana High School and. Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Education. He later attained 30 credits in Safety Education.
Don worked in education at the high school and college levels for over 40 years. He retired from the Garrett County Board of Education, Oakland, MD in June 2011 after teaching Driver Education at Northern Garrett High School for over 30 years.
Don has been married to his wife Mary (Houck) Douds for 44 years. They moved to Palm Beach Gardens in 2013.
An Indiana, PA native, Don was always eager and proud to educate others about Indiana’s claim to fame as the “Christmas tree capital of the world” and the birthplace of Jimmy Stewart!
He was named the county Most Valuable Player in basketball at the high school level in 1962 and 1963. He went on to play four years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Following college he continued to win league and scoring titles in independent leagues as well as a gold medal in the Maryland Senior Olympics Games later in life. In May of 2024 Don was inducted into the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame.
Don coached basketball at the high school and college levels, including at Indiana High School from 1975-78. One of his personal claims to fame in Indiana County is that he scored the last points at IUP’s Waller Hall and the first points at IUP Memorial Fieldhouse.
Following his coaching careers Don continued to independently coach and help numerous young people, not just with their basketball skills but in assisting them with postsecondary goals and placements.
Don is survived by his wife Mary, his brother Dennis Douds (Judy) of Delaware Water Gap, PA. his sister Donene Douds Larkin (Martin) of Cortlandt Manor, NY and sister-in-law Charlene Lancy (Dennis) of Altoona, PA.
Friends will be received at a Memorial Visitation at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter FL on Sunday, February 9 from 2-4pm.
