Donna was able to spend time traveling with her father to take in games of their mutually favorite sport teams such as the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish football games, and play a little golf at Pebble Beach. Upon graduating college she began teaching in New Jersey and occasionally would get a job somewhere at the Jersey Shore, just so she could be near the ocean. Donna moved to St. Louis in the mid 1960’s and began teaching physical education at Clayton High School. From there she moved to Florida to be closer to her parents, the ocean, and the many golf courses available in southern Florida.
She was still too young to retire so she formed her own company, providing a variety of services for her clients.
She would frequently bring up the name of her long-time friend, Sue Umstead, who lives in the Winter Haven area, especially when they would make their annual shopping spree to the other side of the state for Christmas gifts and decorations.
Donna was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in early/mid 2010ish which ultimately reduced her to her bed, and needing increased caregiver coverage.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta and Thomas Carlson of Jupiter Inlet Colony, FL and by her beloved aunt who had resided in Boca Raton, FL.
Donna’s last 5 years required team coverage around the clock which included her visiting nurse, Michelle, Cathy Osborne and Sharron Underwood. They shared many of the ongoing decisions that would need to be made. Donna had three devoted care givers, Jackie, Daphney and Marlene, who covered each 24 hours, without fail, and through every circumstance to make sure Donna was safe, comfortable, and calm. They promised that they would be with Donna throughout, and they were.
Local arrangements are being handled by Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, Jupiter, FL.
Donna will be interred next to her parents in Delaware at the Lower Brandywine Cemetery along with the company of her wonderful fur baby companion TOBY.
