Edmund Warren Smallwood

Ed was born in Washington D.C. on May 24, 1932, and after completing Eastern High School, enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain from 1951-54. Once discharged he got a job at National Furniture Co. where he met the lovely Barbara Thomas. After an 8-week romance, they were married and enjoyed 66 years of marriage. Using the GI Bill, Ed attended Southeastern University during the evenings while embarking on his 40-year career at the Washington Gas Light Company. He began as a clerk in the General Accounting office in 1955 and, after becoming a CPA and receiving his MBA in 1959, retired in 1995 as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the company.

Ed and Barbara became “snowbirds” in 2003 and permanent residents of Jupiter, Fl in 2016, where he enjoyed golfing, sunny, warm happy hours and cruising on Royal Caribbean!

Ed found his greatest joy in time spent with his family, gathering them for annual summer vacations, creating a lasting legacy of love, unity, and cherished memories.

He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Smallwood, and is the father of three children, Edmund Smallwood, Jr. (Simone), Donna Mondorff (Larry) and Bonnie Fetsko. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Matthew Mondorff, Sarah Wood (Travis), Maria Barthmaier (Jimmy), Joseph Fetsko (Anne), Dr. Connor Smallwood (Amanda) and Colin Smallwood (Kayla), along with 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be celebrating his life privately, as he requested. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in his name can do so by visiting Hospice of Palm Beach (Trustbridge) or the American Heart Association.
