Eileen M. Largey, died on September 1, 2023 in Jupiter, FL, in the caring company of her family. She had moved there from Port Monmouth, NJ, her home for 53 years. Eileen was born in Baltimore, MD on September 24, 1934, the third of four children of Paul and Mary Clark. Her family moved to Shrewsbury Township, NJ in 1945. Eileen met Robert Largey at Red Bank Catholic High School, where he captained the football team and she was a cheerleader.
Upon graduating from St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing, Eileen began her nursing career at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ followed by Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. She is also remembered as the first school nurse for St. Catherine Laboure Grammar School in North Middletown, NJ.
In 1972 she began a 29 year career for the Middletown Township Board of Education initially serving as the school nurse for both Port Monmouth Elementary School and East Keansburg Elementary School. While balancing career and family, Eileen somehow found the time to earn her Master of Arts in Student Personnel Services. She transitioned from nursing to become a tremendously effective guidance counselor for 15 years at Thorne Middle School in Port Monmouth, NJ.
Robert and Eileen were married on January 28, 1956, the start of 65 happy years together. They settled first in East Keansburg and eventually moved to Port Monmouth where they raised their five children: Bob Jr. (Marianne), Mary Ellen Branin, Mike (Christine), Maureen Muttie (Joseph) and Jim (Suzanne).
In keeping with Eileen's wishes, a viewing will be held at the Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home, Jupiter, FL on September 16, 8:00am - 10:00am followed by an 11am Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She will head north to Holmdel, NJ to be reunited with her husband. An entombment ceremony will be held at Holmdel Cemetery & Mausoleum.
In addition to her children, Eileen is survived by her eight adored grandchildren (Bill, Sean, Brian, Erin, Brendan, Dan, Kevin and Kyle) and her treasured great-granddaughter, Lili. She is also survived by her sisters Pat and Karen and was predeceased by her husband Robert, sister Mary, and brother Paul.
Eileen will be lovingly remembered for her: sense of humor, weakness for a banana split (chocolate ice cream only please), Scrabble competitiveness, passion for the NY Yankees, "hot" dollars, and famous "reindeer" song. But most of all, she will be remembered as a woman of devotion: to her husband and family, to her students, to her faith, to the Blessed Mother, and to people in need both young and old.
