

Elizabeth “Betty” Rose Sternau was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023, at age 86. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Thomas and Mary Keller on February 22, 1937. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Fred Sternau.
Betty was a friend to all and loved to help people. She will be remembered for her welcoming smile and zest for life. She was passionate about her Catholic religion which guided her to lead her church Bereavement Group (7 years); and also become a Eucharistic Minister, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Jupiter, FL. She was a giving volunteer at the Jupiter Medical Center (10 years), El Sol (14 years), and St. Kevin's Catholic Charities. Betty received numerous volunteer awards and accolades over her lifetime.
After raising two children, Betty went back to college and received a Bachelor’s degree in History from Queens College, where she was president of the Historical Honor Society. Betty and her husband Fred wanted to see the world and traveled to 59 countries. She held numerous jobs at Bell Telephone, A&S Stores, and Medical Doctor’s offices.
Betty is survived by her husband Fred Sternau; son Bob Fowler; daughter Susan Spampinato, husband Renato, grandchildren: Lauren, Ben and Nick; Fred’s daughter Cathy Sternau, husband Kagan Hudayar, grandchildren: Devin and Aydin; Fred’s daughter Ellen Sternau, husband Jeff McGuckin, grandchildren: Vivienne, Audrey and Julian; and sisters: Marge McKeon and Mary Crehan. Betty is predeceased by her former husband, Jim Fowler; her parents: Thomas and Mary Keller; and her sister Ellen Kirker.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Peter's Chapel in Jupiter, Florida on August 16, 2023 at 10 AM. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Betty’s name to El Sol or St. Jude.
