Jupiter resident Ellen (Hribar) Smith, 75, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family Saturday, March 27, 2021, in Jupiter, Florida. Loving mother, grandmother, and wife, Ellen was born January 21, 1946, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to Louis and Emilen (nee Schulz) Hribar.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL. Service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 5:00 pm at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL.

Ellen grew up in Grosse Pointe and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1963, and married her husband David Smith in 1965. After marriage they served together in the Peace Corps. Upon their return to the United States Ellen graduated from Wayne State University with a Masters Degree in the higher mathematics. Ellen then taught at the high school she graduated from for several years.

Ellen and her husband loved sailing and in 1979, together with their two children, Rebecca and David, sailed to the Bahamas, where they spent a year exploring the out islands while living aboard and home schooling their children. Upon returning Ellen and her family settled in Annapolis, Maryland, where Ellen continued her teaching career and over the course of many years taught students at Annapolis Area Christian School and Anne Arundel Community College. Beginning in 1990 Ellen and her husband worked overseas in the Federated States of Micronesia, where Ellen joined the staff at the national campus of the College of Micronesia. There Ellen continued to teach higher mathematics, and also administrated a grant to install and establish the first web and internet system for the South Pacific island nation. Following retirement in the late 1990’s Ellen and her husband returned home to Annapolis, where Ellen worked part-time as a consultant for the NSA at Fort Meade. Ellen and her husband moved to Jupiter, Florida, in 2004.

Ellen’s family takes comfort from her life filled with professional accomplishment and personal adventure. Ellen served in the Peace Corp in Costa Rica, lived in the Bahamas, lived in the islands of the Far Pacific where she was valued by the leaders and chiefs of many islands, hiked the Blue Mountains in Australia, explored temples on Bali, sailed upon the sea of Galilee, lived like a local in Greece and Paris, and after retirement Ellen and her husband lived part-time for several years in Bermuda.

A lifelong devoted Christian, Ellen loved her church activities and bible studies, lovingly nurtured her two children, taught homeschoolers at Jupiter’s Grace Immanuel Bible Church, loved quilting, gardening, and sailing on the Great lakes and Chesapeake Bay and to ocean destinations.

Ellen is survived by her husband and loving partner David Stephen Smith, her daughter Rebecca Morani, her son David Christian Smith, her grandchildren Sarah Savage and Christopher Smith, and her elder sibling Louis Hribar.

Dear David & Family - We were deeply saddened to learn of Ellen's passing. She was an interesting, adventurous, and caring woman who garnered enormous experiences in her 75 years.
Our move to California coupled with her peripatetic life did not lend itself to frequent reunions. However, our times with Ellen were always fun-filled and memorable.
Hers was a life truly lived. We are among her many admirers. We send our love, hugs and All Best Wishes to the Smith Family. We will continue to keep Ellen....and all of you... in our prayers.

Dear Dave, David, and Rebecca,
Your beautiful mom and my beloved friend, I am so sorry for your loss. We all have memories together over the years that will hopefully bring comfort. I remember our holidays in Bermuda and Hawaii, our many Annapolis play times of laughter and food/adult beverages.

When Ellen and I exchanged Starbucks gift cards, she and I would call each other every time we were getting our coffee and pretend we were sitting together at Starbucks just catching up for a few minutes. I loved her laugh.

Afternoon teatimes at my home praying for our families. Girls Night Out once a month with Ellen and Helen were so special; sometimes we were mischievous gals, other times deep serious conversations.

Ellen taught me to ask questions and I do to this day, about everything. She was one of my teachers in life, she is part of who I am today. I love Ellen! She loved her family deeply! Every conversion included her family. She loved Jesus.

We go back for 35 years! There are so many memories together with you all snd between she and I. Thank you for sharing Ellen with me! 💗
