He attended and graduated from Yorktown High School and ITT Technical Institute. Frederick was a proud member of the Air Force.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Purswell (Mike); sons, Derek Shields(Jennifer), Patrick Shields(Kelly), Robert Shields (Elizabeth); granddaughters, Brandi Carlton (Justin), Mariah Lott, Brianna Hodges, Juliana Shields, Sophia Shields, Ava Shields, Olivia Shields, grandsons, Hayden Purswell (Kallie), Lane Lott (Nicole), Hunter Lott, Tylor Lott, Dillon Lott and Harlee Purswell; great-granddaughters, Emily Carlton, Elizabeth Carlton, Emma Tirado, Briland and Great Grandson Lucas Lott. He also leaves behind his brother Edward Frey, his best friend/brother Roger Anderson and many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Frederick is preceded in death by his son Frederick Shields, Jr, and daughter Dawn Shields.
He loved his family and was very proud of them and their accomplishments. He never met a stranger. In his eyes family didn’t mean you had to be blood related.
