Gary Titherington was born on July 13, 1968 in Montreal, Quebec. He passed away in Palm Beach County, Florida on September 23, 2018 after passionately scoring the winning hockey goal for The Clarity Jets. Gary “100%” enjoyed this team; loved the sport: loved his teammates, and the camaraderie. He gave nothing less than “100%”
during his lifetime.
Gary graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1986 and ventured on his own to a city where his heart belonged-Boston, Massachusetts. He studied and graduated in 1991 with a dual degree in both finance and business from Northeastern University, where he met his life-long best friends, Jay Greenless and Scott Warland. While attending Northeastern, Gary was both vice president and treasurer of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He never stopped learning and years later obtained a Master’s of Arts and Liberal Studies Administration and Leadership from Plattsburgh State University.
Gary’s professional affiliations in the North Country of Plattsburgh, New York included serving as Vice President of Mold-Rite Plastics, (a company started by both of his parents, Geoffrey and Wyn (Burns) Titherington), and acting as business manager of both Geoffrey’s Pub and Treadwell Bay Marina. The communitarian that he was, Gary served on many boards and committees in the North Country including President and Chairman of the board of the North Country Chamber of Commerce.
In 1993, Gary married the love of this life, Karen Stiles in a private ceremony in Jamaica. Shortly after, in honor of the Lord, they celebrated the sacrament of marriage in the Sacred Heart Church, Castleton, NY. Recently, Karen and Gary celebrated their 50th birthdays and 25th anniversary on a monumental trip to the Pacific Northwest. The highlight of that trip was bicycling through Stanley Park and then taking in all the sites from Seattle’s Space Needle. Walking hand in hand in Vancouver and Seattle, two unfamiliar cities, will never be forgotten. It was the simple things that Karen & Gary enjoyed the most.
Gavin wrote the following to sum up his dad…..
“Gary Titherington was everything that could ever be desired in a husband, a father, a friend and mentor. He never had a frown on his face, nor had he ever looked at the negatives in any situation life threw at him. He was a problem solver, loved by everyone who came into contact with him. He did not have one bad bone in his body. He did what he loved, and loved what he did. He golfed and he loved golf, he played hockey and loved hockey. He spent countless hours watching teams he loved: The Bruins, The Celtics, The Patriots and the Red Sox. He was a true Boston fan. He went to every game he could and loved every game he went to.” As my mom would put it: It was always about the game! A true sportsaholic!
