Heiki Parts, age 94, a resident of Palm Beach Gardens, FL passed away on October 10, 2023. Born in Tartu, Estonia on October 3, 1929, he was the son of Anton Parts and Meeta Karner, both deceased. He also had an older sister, the late Astra Parts.
He fled Estonia with his family during the Soviet invasion of 1944. After several years in a Displaced Persons camp in Germany, he emigrated to the United States. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and his sharp mind qualified him for surveying airfields and radar site construction. Upon his return he used the GI Bill to obtain a Civil Engineering degree. The money he saved during his military service went to bring his parents to the United States.
In 1958 he fell in love and married Helve Sork, also an Estonian immigrant. They settled in Albany, New York and had two children, Heikki Parts of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Ingrid Martin of Mineral Wells, TX. He worked for New York State as an engineer and advanced to the position of Director, Principal Claims for DOT Legal Affairs. Upon retirement from government work Heiki managed the local office of Boswell Engineering and did consulting work. After living the "snowbird" life for several years Heiki and Helve relocated permanently to Florida in 1998.
Throughout his life Heiki was very active in the Estonian-American community, serving as a tireless advocate for his homeland. Quick to volunteer, he was at times Chairman of the Albany Festival of Nations, a scoutmaster and board member of many local groups. Upstate NY was the perfect place for Heiki to enjoy the outdoors with his family. Lots of ski trips, ice skating, hiking and golf were always planned. He had a passion for tennis and continued to play regularly into his 80's. Whenever possible Heiki and Helve indulged in travel. They also loved to dance, whether it was traditional Estonian folk dancing or ballroom dancing.
Heiki had a fulfilling life and impacted numerous lives. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Services will be held on Wednesday November 8, 2023 at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter FL. 33458 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM.
