One hundred years ago this man came into the world. Still a bright light in my life every day. I miss you, Daddy, so very much.

I came to know Harry Riordan during my years as a Corporate Associate at Cravath (1985 – 1992).  I remember before meeting him that I was told that he had single-handedly pioneered the railroad leasing industry and I was a little intimidated at the thought of perhaps revealing my inexperience and short comings as a novice lawyer before such an accomplished man.  I have never forgotten his calm and reassuring demeanor that quickly disarmed me and allowed me to do my best.  In this he was like his long-time colleague, Sam Butler, a fellow lion of the law.  These were men of great accomplishment and gentle strength.  Even today, after all these years, I aspire to be like them. 

Harry was such a sweet and funny man.  He used to come to come exercise at our rehab.  He always made me laugh.  So full of life.  It was a pleasure to know and take care of him.  

My Uncle Harry was a loving, caring, generous person, with a wonderful sense of humor.  Throughout the years, I was fortunate to be able to speak with him about not only familial topics, but also about life in general.  He provided guidance and support while maintaining an understanding of me as an individual.  When I reflect back, I see that throughout my life, he was always there for me.  I know that he will be greatly missed by familily, friends, and colleagues.  He was a gem!

Harry was a colleague of my father and a frequent guest with his wife Eileen at my parents house. He had a wonderful sense of humor
as well as being a fine lawyer. He will be missed by all.

I worked for Harry in the early 1960's. He was an excellent teacher and mentor. As I learned the financing work for railroads, he let me do more and more on my own with only an occasional comment or recommendation. It was a pleasure.

We have lost a very fine person and all who knew or know him will miss him. My sympathies to all the members of his family.

My first assignment as an associate at Cravath was for Harry, and I greatly enjoyed it, despite being a bit intimidated to work as a newbie for a senior partner. This was in 1972. Harry was "the man" on railroad financings and handled public offerings for Salomon Brothers and other underwriting houses. I learned a lot and enjoyed my association with him and the other partners and associates who assisted him. I am glad he had a long and fruitful professional and family life, but was sorry to read of his passing.
