As a child, he overcame paralysis due to polio and once played stick ball with Duke Snider of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He served in the Army during the Korean War. After his service, he met and married the love of his life Arlene. Howard and Arlene raised their family in Elmont, New York. He worked for several companies where he managed shipping and distribution. They continued to live in Long Island before retiring to Florida in 2002.
Howard enjoyed his time spent with family, telling and retelling his army stories, and teasing his grandkids and occasionally his wife, though he denied teasing anyone, ever. He and Arlene enjoyed 56 years of marriage until her passing in 2017.
In retirement, Howard was active in the Jewish War Veterans in Vero Beach. Howard was smiling right up until his passing as he was determined to do things his way. He lived each day to its fullest and he is now reunited with Arlene.
He is survived by his son Bruce Black (Adriana) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, daughter Terri (Black) Weiland (James) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, brother Leonard (Roberta) Black of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and grandchildren Stephanie Black, Gregory (Erica) Weiland, Matthew Weiland, Brianna Black, and Ricky Ramsey.
A graveside service for Howard will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Riverside Memorial Park, 19351 SE County Line Rd, Tequesta, FL 33469.
