James D. "Jim" Lierman

James (Jim) D. Lierman, 96, of Jupiter a resident of The Waterford passed away on December, 1, 2012. He is survived by his beloved wife Isabel of 71 years.

Jim was born on July 11, 1916 fifth of five children to John and Jenny Lierman of Champaign, IL. He had fond memories of scouting having joined the Boy Scouts in 1929 and obtaining the merit of Eagle Scout. Jim went on to accumulate a total of 69 merit badges during his time with the scouts. Jim and Isabel are graduates of the University of Illinois where they met and married upon graduation. Jim was called up during World War II as an officer. He served in the South Pacific 53rd Field Artillery Battalion where he was decorated for gallantry in action against the enemy and was awarded the Silver Star. Major Lierman was also decorated earlier with a Bronze Star, as well the Asia-Pacific ribbon with two bronze stars and the bronze arrowhead, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with bronze star and the American Defense ribbon. Upon returning to the states, Jim and Isabel began a family, and he had a long memorable career, with Johnson and Johnson. While living in N.J. they raised two sons, James and David. James resides with his wife Susan in Naples, FL. David with his wife Gail and daughter Alisha in Cary, NC. Both sons were raised in Mountainside, NJ where Jim and Isabel were active in the Presbyterian Church and community. They were members of the Echo Lake C.C. and spent summers at West Point Island with the boys and friends. Jim retired an executive with J&J, V.P. and General Manager of the Hospital, Dental and Professional Division. He was past President of the Medical Surgical Trade Association. He served as Executive Vice President of C.R Bard and member of the Board of Directors before retiring to Tequesta, FL. He and Isabel lived in Turtle Creek Country Club for thirty years and Highlands, NC at Wildcat Cliffs for twenty five years, where they enjoyed golf, extensive travel and the warmth of close friends and neighbors.

Jim will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the Presbyterian Church of Tequesta. He will be greatly missed by all family and friends.
