Jean loved life and squeezed every last ounce of it until her last day. Her interests were far and wide and pioneering in many ways-- she was a champion tennis player, an avid photographer, a prolific reader, and a lover and protector of nature, who canoed with the alligators, walked the beaches, joyfully watched the hatching of the turtle eggs, and studied birds.
Most of all, she loved her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, her daughters Christine Tantum and Virginia Harnisch, her son-in-laws, Daniel Tantum and Alex Havriliak, her grandchildren, Gabriella Leon, Alexander Tantum, and Anya Havriliak, and her sister Christine Hannigan.
A memorial service will be held at St. Joachim Church in Cedarhurst, New York on Saturday, June 30 at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Patients into People, a non-profit that she inspired to brighten the lives of cancer patients.
