Joan was born on July 12, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Solon, Ohio. She was the daughter of Bill and Doris Emshoff and the third of six children. She is preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Bill Emshoff.
Joan graduated from Solon High School in 1962 and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Baldwin Wallace University in 1966. Joan married William “Bill” Lloyd Jorgenson in 1967, and they maintained a very close friendship after their divorce.
Joan held consulting and human resource management positions at PHH Fantus, Beatrice Companies, Gould, and American Hospital Supply Corporation. Joan’s areas of expertise were in executive search, organization development, compensation analysis, and policy development. She created her own Economic Development Consulting business in 1993, Jorgenson Consulting, and was regarded as a leader in that industry. Joan served on the Board of Directors of the International Economic Development Council, the Southern Economic Development Council, and the Maryland Industrial Development Association. Joan regularly spoke at annual national and state economic development association meetings. Joan inspired many economic development professionals with her guidance and unwavering belief in the potential of others.
Joan traveled often and one of her cross-country trips resulted in her meeting her husband of 40 years, Carl Majeczky. Joan and Carl lived in Chicago, Illinois and Annapolis, Maryland before settling permanently in Jupiter, Florida, in 2001. She became a fixture in their community, Jonathan’s Landing, serving as the President of Lantern Bay Homeowners' association and a board member of the Women’s 18-hole golf group. One of Joan’s greatest passions was volunteering at Jupiter Medical Center in pre-op and most recently became the JMC Auxiliary Board President.
Regardless of how many responsibilities Joan chose to accept, she placed family above them all. The greatest joy of Joan’s life was being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her husband, Carl, her two children, Susie Jorgenson Mayes and Todd Jorgenson (Jennifer) of Greensboro, NC; and a stepdaughter, Tracy Roche (David). She is also
survived by 7 grandchildren: Alicia Hauser, Thomas Mayes, Sydney Mayes, Jack Mayes, Jett Roche, Will Jorgenson, and Caroline Jorgenson. Joan is also survived by her first husband, Bill Jorgenson, and siblings, Jim (Margie) Emshoff, Alan (Marilyn) Emshoff, Chris (Connie) Emshoff, and Nancy (Bob) Meany, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in Jupiter, Florida, on October 26th at Jupiter First Church at 10:30 am. Please honor Joan by dressing in her favorite color, blue, for her service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jupiter Medical Center Foundation.
