Joan Marlene Malizia, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 26, 1932 in Roselle Park, New Jersey to John and Mollie Langstaff. After graduating from Roselle Park High School, she went on to pursue her nursing degree at Elizabeth General Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey. While attending nursing school, Joan was editor of the yearbook and received the “Kindness” award. Two years after graduating, Joan met and married the love of her life, Anthony Charles Malizia. On May 27, 2017, they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Joan enjoyed traveling, reading, keeping abreast of advances in the medical field, watching old movies, laughing, sharing stories, and spending time with her family, both near and far. She is survived by her devoted husband, Anthony, her son, Anthony Malizia Jr and his wife Dedra, of Jupiter, Florida, her daughter Molly Malizia Fox and her husband Alan, of Little Silver, New Jersey and her five grandchildren, Nicole Malizia, Richard Cauterucci, Anthony Cauterucci, Joseph Cauterucci, and Michael Cauterucci. Joan also leaves behind her oldest and dearest friend, Delores Faulkner and her husband Wayne, of Rockaway, New Jersey.
As a retired registered nurse, Joan held the medical profession in very high regard. With that in mind, the family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Allegro Assisted Living in Jupiter for their unwavering kindness and compassion. We would also like to thank the staff at the Jupiter Medical Center Intensive Care Unit for the sensitive and considerate manner in which they treated our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
