

Joann graduated from Brandon High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor in Education from the University of Wisconsin.
Joann led a remarkable life defined by curiosity, dedication, and love. Alongside her husband, Michael, she owned and operated two highly successful businesses. First, was the Highland Hunt Club in Wisconsin, and after moving to Jupiter, Florida, they built Mike Sommers’ Fine Sporting Dogs-a prestigious, nationally respected training business known for excellence and care.
Joann met the love of her life, Michael Sommers on a ski slope and their adventurous spirits united for a lifelong personal and professional partnership. They were married in Random Lake, WI and last August, joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin surrounded by family and friends.
Joann was a woman of many talents. In her youth, she developed a love of horses and became an experienced equestrian. Joann was an avid reader, a skilled cook and hostess and a joyful traveler. Her journeys around the world brought her great happiness, especially her many cherished trips to Scotland.
Survivors include her husband, Michael; her siblings, Velma Reichle of VA, Carol (Gary) Cooke of WA, Bruce Frei of FL, Warren (Ann) Frei of FL; sisters-in-law, Sue (Joe) Palus, Kathy (Geoff) Marlette and Mary (Mark) Wanezek all from WI as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 12001 SE Federal Hwy, Hobe Sound, FL 33455.
