I am so sorry to hear of John's passing.  But I know he is celebrating with our Lord in Heaven.  I served with John in Children's Church at Generation Church.  We moved to Tennessee so I didn't get to see my friend again.  John, always had a kind word and a smile on his face.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

We lost a very dear friend in John. 
Gary loved his conversations with John on the automotive business, family and politics. He admired him very much.
We had great memories over the years watching our families grow up.  
He will be missed by all who knew him.

Dear Karen, Christopher and entire O’Dell family,

We are so saddened to hear of John’s passing. Over recent years in the community we developed a strong friendship. We’ll remember swims in the pool, holiday golf cart parades, long conversations at the range, countless smiles and cheerful greetings and of course a lot of quality time with Christopher and our boys. These special moments were among the highlights of our time in Jupiter and ones we feel grateful to have shared with John. Know that we’ll have you all in our thoughts and will be thinking of John too. A good man we were fortunate to count as a friend.

Sunday we lost a friend, devoted husband, father and grandfather.

John and I met in the early 70’s at Plum Hollow Golf Club.  We enjoyed one and others company and began playing golf on a regular basis.  We would plan trips to northern Michigan and winter trips to Florida.  So many fond memories.

In 1980 John asked me to join his poker club.  We had such a great time telling stale jokes and playing nickel, dime quarter.  There was never much to eat just snacks and beverages.  Well over the years it morphed into fine dining and a few hands of showdown.  

My wife and I were married in 1984 at The First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth.  It was a small family wedding with the exception of two close friends, John and Karen O’Dell and Bob and Sally O’Brien.  John, Bob and I played golf together for many years.  Sadly, we lost both to this hideous virus; Bob last year and now John.  

Last year I had the pleasure of staying with John and Karen.  We played golf at Trump National, caught up on our lives, and even attended Christopher’s little league game.  John had him convinced I was a major league scout looking for young, raw talent.  Christopher was in his glory.

That is the man I remember and I will truly miss my longtime friend!

 

Karen, I'm lost for words, this was a real shocker.  John and I had many fun times during our years at Sutton Place. John worked hard and played hard. I haven't seen John since 1982 but all the fond memories of Banana have always stayed with me over the years. John and I have stayed InTouch via email and an occasional phone call. 

Gail and I will always remember John for all the good things he did for us in our younger years and will never forget the wild ride our Bestman gave us to the airport on our wedding night.  

Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family as you go through these difficult times.

More than 25 years of golf, lunches and "solving the world's problems" sure slipped by quickly. We will miss you, but hope to pick up where we left off. Peace my friend.


Knowing John as a man that loved Our Lord was a privilege and a blessing.  He was the kind of man that never asked for prayer for himself, but always for his family.  He brightened every bible study with humor, love, and wisdom. He became a model of what a caring father should be.  When Christopher became part of his life, he glowed with love and pride giving truth to the words that say, "children are a gift from God."  He showed us all what it means to be a Christian father, grandfather, husband, and friend. He is indelibly etched in our hearts and minds for as long as we are on this earth. Our prayers are with his family.

John O'Dell was the best Dad ever. He lived a truely amazing life filled with family and friends; remained healthy and active right up to the end. I treasure the memories we had golfing, going out on the boat, fishing, going to the beach; amazing family vacations to go skiing or island adventures. We worked together in Michigan and Florida and always managed to enjoy our time spent together; made some money too. I miss John's jokes, him telling me what to do, his smile and his love for God. I know he is in heaven with God, Jesus and angelic hosts. 

Dear brother-in-law, and uncle, John. You lived your life to the fullest! We’ll remember and treasure your sense of humor, your strong convictions, your energy and ability to light up a room. We’ll miss you! Rest in peace until we meet again.  Lori, Michael, Stephen, Benjamin and Peter
