Dr. John M. "Jack" Terry

Dr. John M. “Jack” Terry, age 78, longtime resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away peacefully surronded by his family at Jupiter Medical Center on September 17, 2018. He was born March 22, 1940, in Auburn, NY; son of Dr. John W. Terry and Arline McFarland Terry.

In his early years, he was a resident of Oceanside, NY and attended Oceanside Sr. High School. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a Veterinarian. He first attended Hofstra University for three years and then continued his studies for an additional four years, obtaining his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University. In 1963, while attending Cornell, he married his beloved wife, Joanne. After graduation, Jack and Joanne returned to Long Island so he could work at Huntington Animal Hospital for one year. In 1966, Jack proudly took over his father’s practice, Dr. Terry’s Animal Hospital in Rockville Centre, NY. There he had a wonderful relationship with not only his clients, but their furry friends as well.

In 1990, after practicing for 25 years, Jack retired to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. An avid golfer, he was a long time member of both Rockville Links Club in Rockville Centre and PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. He practiced daily bringing his handicap down to six. The “hole-in-one” eluded him until his wife, Joanne, got one and then he achieved four in a very short period of time. Jack was an insatiable reader and loved to listen to music. In addition, he loved to travel everywhere and anywhere. He and Joanne took several cross-country trips and visited four continents. Military battlefield sites were one of his favorite places to visit. History was always a fascination for him.

Jack was much loved by his family and friends, during his last few months he spent quality time with many of them. Surrounded by his family, he peacefully left this world to continue life’s next journey.

Jack recently celebrated 55 years of marriage with his wife, Joanne. He is also survived by daughter, Laureen Terry Mitchell and husband Tom; son, John Terry and wife Diana; daughter, Diane Terry Zawrotny and husband Chris; and daughter Karen Terry Cobb and husband Chris. He leaves behind nine loving grandchildren as well: Jessica Mitchell, Terry Mitchell, Samantha Shields and husband Alex, Cassidy Terry, Erica Terry, Kaylee Cobb, Bryson Cobb, Zane Zawrotny, and Zac Zawrotny. Jack also leaves behind his two siblings, Barbara Broder and Donald W. Terry and wife Patricia, and his favorite cousin, Walter L. Terry and wife Diane.
