April 3rd, 1943 – April 26th 2014
Survived by her husband Bill Schumacher, her children Debby Sparber (Richard), Brian Smith (Annette), and John Smith, and step-daughter Kathy Schumacher (Bob). She had six wonderful grand children Melonie, Megan, and Morgan Sparber, Kalie and Kristin Schumacher-Smith, and Stephan Smith.
Kathy was born in Milford, Delaware, and raised in Newton, New Jersey by Reverend Rodney L. and Marguerite Boaz (both deceased). She had four siblings; Judy (deceased), Caroline, Janet, and Paul (Linda) Boaz.
After graduating high school, Kathy attended nursing school, and soon began her family. While raising her three children she started her own company writing training programs for major firms in Detroit; including Ford, GM, National Bank, Porsche, and EDS. In 1977 she met the love of her life, Bill. In 1986, Kathy, at the age of 43 and Bill then 53, decided to retire and pursue their love of sailing… They sailed their boat, “The Quest” from the Great Lakes, down the Hudson River to Stuart, Florida. During the next ten years they sailed the waters of the Bahamas, and by chance stopped at the island of Andros where they both started working again at the AUTEC naval base. After four fun years they found their way to Rum Cay in 1996. They sold their boat, built a house and two guest cottages by hand; living on the island for the next 18 wonderful years.
After living thru several hurricanes, the fire that destroyed their home, and Bill surviving third degree burns, the ugly head of cancer struck Kathy and they returned to the States for treatment. Kathy battled both lung cancer and blood cancer for over four years before IT finally took her.
On a lighter note, Kathy was known for her gourmet taste in food; some of her favorites included SPAM, Velveeta cheese, canned Franco American spaghetti, dried chipped beef, canned chicken ala king…but her favorite, by far, was Mc Donald’s ¼ pounder with cheese, plain.
Kathy was a wonderful, caring person, with more friends than any of us can count. She will be in our hearts forever and we will miss her dearly.
A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on May 31st, 2014 at 11am at the Aycock Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter Fl., 33458.
