

Leo Charles Hughes Jr., 87, of Jupiter, Florida passed peacefully from this life on March 3rd, 2025. He was born April 26, 1937, in Carbondale, West Virginia to Leo Charles Hughes Sr. and Dolly Myrtle Hughes. Chuck was raised in Fayetteville, West Virginia and after graduating from high school, he entered the Air Force where he served at Barksdale Air Force Base, in Bossier City, Louisiana. Chuck later went on to a career with the Department of Defense, where he played a key role in the development of the Fairchild A-10 “Warthog” attack aircraft. Chuck later ended his career at Pratt-Whitney working on the SR-71 program in Jupiter, Florida. He retired early, where he enjoyed bike riding, working in the yard and doing mechanical work on his cars. He also enjoyed visiting family in both West Virginia and in Germany.
He is survived by his sons, Charles Monroe Hughes, and wife Shari; Leo Charles Hughes III (CJ); Patrick J. Hughes (PJ), and wife Karen; and daughter Mary C. Davis; grandchildren Brittany, Christina, Kevin and Jordan and great grandchildren, Casen, Hays, Levi, Lillie and Theo. Brother Bobby Hughes; and sisters Betty Light, and husband Henry; Susan Creech, and husband Charlie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at Aycock Riverside Funeral Home in Jupiter, Florida, Wednesday, March 19th at 10:00 am, with a graveside service at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery located at Lake Worth, Florida at 1:00 pm.
