Marcia Dowd passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026, peacefully at the age of 81 at her home in Jupiter, FL surrounded by family members at her side. Marcia was born in Livingston New Jersey in 1944, to the parents of George and Arlene Dole.
After an eleven-year marriage to her first husband, William Gould Sr., she married Donald in 1981, joining their families together. Don and Marcia went on to lovingly raise six children, ranging in age from seven to 21 at the time of their wedding.
Marcia lived a substantial portion of her life in Duxbury, MA and will be remembered by many as the successful owner of the Dole and Dowd Jewelry Store in Hall’s Corner, next to the Girl Scout House on Washington Street. Marcia’s first-class shop was always full of the most beautiful assortment of inventory. She was ambitious, smart, determined and persistent and most of all a super saleswoman. She made sure many women in Duxbury keep a special wish list of their jewelry desires in her store, where their husbands could simply pop into Dole and Dowd and purchase a gift – no questions asked. She was greatly missed when the store finally closed after 30 years.
That same perseverance carried through every volunteer role she embraced. Marcia was elected to serve on the Duxbury School Board, served on the Town of Duxbury Finance Committee, was a longtime member of the Duxbury Yacht Club, and served on the Norwich University Board of Directors. She was a graduate of Vermont College, which merged with Norwich University in 1972 and later became the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Later in life, Marcia became a second homeowner in Jupiter, where she served on the Board of Directors in the golf community of Admirals Cove and was active with the Cancer Alliance. Marcia and Don later retired to Jonathan’s Landing in Jupiter to be near her son, Bill Gould, his wife, Caroline, and her very special granddaughter, Abigail Gould, who shared dinner with her every Friday night.
Marcia will always be remembered for her vibrancy, her smile, her ability to negotiate with her male peers, and most of all, for her wonderful stories. She loved the game of tennis and enjoyed boating in her younger years. In her later years, conversations with old friends from Duxbury and the love of her granddaughter, Abby, sustained and brought her great joy.
Marcia was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Virginia Dole, and her former husband, William Gould.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Donald Dowd, of Jupiter; her son, Bill Gould, and his wife, Caroline, also of Jupiter; and her beloved granddaughter, Abby Gould. She is also lovingly remembered by her stepchildren, Tom Dowd, Debbie Koury, Mark Dowd, Susie Dowd, and John Dowd, as well as their eleven children.
