Martin Allan Stevens (born Martin Allan Levy) was born in the Bronx, New York, and grew up in Brooklyn. He had a lifelong passion for aviation that started as a boy, when he would ride his bicycle to the airfield that would later become JFK Airport to watch the planes. Driven by this dream, he took flying lessons at every possible opportunity. He attended Brooklyn College at night, and later transferred to Queens College, all with the aspiration of flying.
He joined the Air Force, was commissioned as an officer in 1965 and was accepted into Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training in 1968. In 1969, he deployed to Thailand, serving two tours, commanding the C-130 gunship.
Over his 31-year military career, he served in both active duty and the Air Force Reserves, rising to the rank of Colonel. During this time, in addition to his flying responsibilities, he held positions of Check Airman, Squadron Safety Officer, and ultimately Squadron Commander of the 702nd Squadron, at McGuire AFB. He capped off his military career as a liaison to the USAF Academy, where he helped promising young cadets start their Air Force careers. Alongside his military service, he had a successful career as a commercial airline pilot, flying for Eastern Airlines and later United Airlines, before retiring in 2002.
During most of this time, he made his home in NY and NJ, where he was a devoted father to his two sons, Mark and Dan. He took great pride in watching them grow and always valued the time they spent together. His unwavering support left a lasting impression, and his legacy lives on not only through his career accomplishments but through the family he loved so deeply.
Prior to retirement, Marty moved to Palm Beach Gardens, FL, where he was very involved in his community and also pursued his other passion for healthy living. He became a licensed massage therapist, earned his Healing Touch certification, and taught yoga for seven years. He was well known for his profound kindness, generosity, and deep care for others. He never hesitated to offer a helping hand—whether driving a neighbor to the doctor, mentoring students, or dedicating years of service to the Evergrene HOA.
While in Florida, he shared a beautiful life of adventure with his beloved wife, Jane. Together, they loved nothing more than "riding a pass" to Europe with no set itinerary, discovering the details and making memories only after they arrived.
Martin is survived by his wife, Jane Bruno; his sons, Mark Stevens (Nancy) and Dan Stevens (Caroline) and his six cherished grandchildren, Sean, Logan, Riley, Joe, Charlie, and Tommy. He leaves behind a legacy of service, adventure, and unconditional love.
