She was born on October 21st, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Helen and James McGinn. She attended Notre Dame Catholic High School for girls in Moylan, Pa. and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania.
She enjoyed a successful career at Smith, Kline and French pharmaceutical company in Philadelphia. She worked in Marketing, preparing critical documentation for New Drug Application submittals and guidance for the medical community on prescribing information and physician support.
It was there that she met her future husband, Robert Cook, with whom she enjoyed more than 40 years of marriage until his passing in 2015.
Maureen shared so much with us. She regaled us with many fond memories of growing up, where she and her mother, Helen Richmond McGinn, her brothers John and James and her cousin Jerry Taylor, lived with her grandmother, Helen Doyle Richmond. Hers was a fascinating family. She had uncles, aunts and grandparents that had their own intrepid history of travel and living in several countries, including India, Africa, Japan and China.
She also very much enjoyed traveling! She made several trips to Europe, and to Turkey, Mexico, South America, Thailand and China.
Maureen touched all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, genuine interest in people and incredible memory for detail of everyone’s children and family that she would always ask for in every conversation. There are too many stories to share here but she had that same effect on everyone she met. She was particularly fond of her stylist, K.C. (Karen), and Carlos Herrera, her groundskeeper, who did so many things for her whenever she needed help.
Maureen was a woman of deep Catholic faith and until recently, regularly attended St. Jude’s Church in Tequesta for many years.
She loved her long life here in Jupiter, Florida at Jonathan’s Landing. She enjoyed playing tennis, was an avid golfer and made lifelong friendships over the years. In particular, she had a very special group of ladies that I affectionately call her “posse”, Judy, Diana, Donna and Jane. They looked after one another and shared many great times together and especially looked forward to their Thursday dinners in each other’s company.
Maureen is survived by her children: Christopher Hup(Lisa),Susan Cook Sjostrom (Steve) and Peter Cook, her grandchildren: Jessycaray Cook and Kristen Astrid Sjostrom, her nieces and nephews: James McGinn(Lora), Michael McGinn(Robbie), Beth McGinn, John McGinn, Matthew McGinn (Chris) and many nieces, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Robert W. Cook, she was predeceased by her brothers John McGinn (Karen), James Mcginn, her dear cousin Gerald Taylor(Barbara), her most beloved niece Jennifer McGinn Nederhood(Joe) and granddaughter, Daytona Cook.
Private services are being arranged and will be held at the convenience of the family.
