

She graduated from Washington University with a BS in Education and an MA in English & Education. She taught for many years in Missouri & Florida (having moved to Florida in 1962). As a young woman she enjoyed playing tennis, riding her bicycle, and baking. She was an accomplished pianist having studied under Corinne Frederick & Hazel Hugo. In her later years she taught private piano lessons.
In June 1948 she married her high school sweetheart, Alvin Acton, after he returned from his service in the US Navy during WWII. Sadly, Al passed away in 1996. They are survived by their three children, David Acton (Dr. Jan Miller), Daniel Acton (Denise Acton), and Julie Hirst (Ken Hirst). They were very involved in their children's lives including school, music lessons, sports, church, scouts, and other extracurricular activities. Mildred loved to travel, throughout her lifetime she visited 47 states, Canada, Mexico, and Cuba. She enjoyed cheering on the Cardinals & Rays baseball teams!
She is survived by her grandchildren, Adrienne (Nate) Mayer, Justin (Amanda) Acton, Autumn Conkle, Tara (Richard) Stepler, Logan (Stephanie) Acton, Ashley Hirst and Adam Hirst and eleven great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Herman & Martha Mecker and her brother, Robert Mecker.
Services will be held at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home in Jupiter, FL on October 12, 2024. Family and friends will be received from 12:00 pm to 1:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 pm followed by the committal service at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta.
